He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Field Surveying team in Manukau is seeking a number of experienced building industry professionals to manage the Auckland South portfolio as Building Inspectors. With over 600 staff members in Building Consents working across the Auckland region, we can confidently say that there are always excellent career opportunities available within our team.

You will be responsible for conducting building inspections across your coverage area, to ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and safety requirements. You will have the opportunity to travel around the region, receive comprehensive training and support, and the autonomy to make necessary decisions so that our customers can experience a seamless process with us. You will be working with clients from various sectors of the development community, such as builders, homeowners, architects and developers, providing them with the proper guidance and advice on compliant building practices.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, building codes, building consent authority’s ‘BCA’ policies, and other legislative requirements, and make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes
  • Help increase customer understanding of the building code and Council processes by providing accurate and timely advice in a customer centric manner
  • Apply sound reasons for decisions and maintain accurate, robust records of inspections


He kōrero mōu: About you
This role requires experience in similar building related roles, with a sound understanding of building design, construction, structural integrity, the Building Code, and the Building Act. We are looking for someone who has a deep knowledge of building compliance and is motivated by helping others understand and meet these requirements. You will need to apply strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and a customer-focused approach to everything you do.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Relevant qualification(s) such as the National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or an equivalent professional qualification (IANZ accepted)
  • Similar experience working with building codes, regulations, or in a comparable inspection role would be an advantage
  • At least 5 years of cumulative experience in a building-related regulatory environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and technical & structural integrity aspects of building design and construction standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a proven ability to interact with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong customer service focus with a solution-oriented approach, while upholding high ethical standards during inspections and enforcement activities
  • The ability to manage competing demands and resolve conflicts effectively
  • A full, clean NZ Driver’s License is required to travel to different inspection sites
