As we modernise our learning environment, we need a Learning Systems and Design Manager to lead the transformation of our digital learning platforms and instructional design strategies.

He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As Learning Systems and Design Manager, you will play a key role in developing and implementing best-in-class learning solutions across KiwiRail. You will lead the digital learning transformation, ensuring our people have access to high-quality, engaging, and compliant training.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Driving innovation in learning design, incorporating instructional strategies that enhance workforce capability.
  • Managing KiwiRail’s Learning Management System and ensuring continuous improvement in learning technologies.
  • Developing digital learning strategies that align with business goals, industry compliance, and best practice.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across KiwiRail, including HR, Zero Harm, SMEs, and external vendors, to ensure training solutions meet operational needs.
  • Leading and mentoring a team to deliver high-quality instructional design and e-learning, VR, and AI solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry regulations, qualifications, and operational training standards.

We’re looking for a digital learning leader with a passion for innovation and workforce development. To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • 5+ years’ experience in learning design, instructional design, or digital learning transformation.
  • Strong expertise in Learning Management Systems and e-learning technologies.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing learning frameworks in a complex organisation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across multiple business units.
  • Experience in compliance training, including regulatory and technical training standards.
  • A strong understanding of adult learning principles, 70:20:10 learning methodology, and competency-based training.
  • Preferred experience in rail, transport, safety-critical industries, or working with NZQA frameworks.
