He angitūtanga: The opportunity:
The Planning and Resource Consents unit shapes policy and planning outcomes across Auckland’s city centre, isthmus, and beyond. Auckland Council has 4 fantastic Senior Policy Planner positions available.
As a Senior Policy Planner, you will:
• Provide high-quality planning and place-making advice to elected members, communities, and other internal and external stakeholders
• Evaluate and monitor the Auckland Unitary Plan, including participating in the plan review, and implementation of the National Planning Standards, the National Policy Statement on Urban Development and other national planning documents
• Participate and lead in the development of council plan changes and variations
• Manage the assessment, reporting and cost recovery on private plan changes and notices of requirement, including representing council in appeals to the Environment Court
• Lead the development of spatial plans by partnering with a range of internal and external stakeholders

He kōrero mōu: About you:
This role will require a strong focus on continuous improvement and the ability to deal with complex planning issues. With a passion for policy, statutory and spatial planning we are looking for a senior planner who has:
• A degree qualification or higher and at least 7 years experience in planning and resource management
• A robust understanding of the Resource Management Act
• Statutory planning background and prior experience either preparing or reporting on plan changes or notices of requirement
• Understanding of procurement, financial and project management at a project level
• An appreciation of te ao Māori and experience with council’s responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
While we encourage the use of public transport, you’ll ideally hold a valid New Zealand full driver licence.
