He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Data department under our newly formed Directorate Group Shared Services is in the market for a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines using industry-leading tools like Snowflake. You will be key in ensuring secure, efficient, and high-performing data workflows while embedding best practices within our Modern Data Platform, including Fivetran and dbt. This role also involves documenting ETL/ELT processes and continuously improving data engineering standards.
As a Senior, you will also mentor junior Data Engineers, establish best practices for peer reviews and documentation, and collaborate closely with analytics, data engineering, and governance teams. You will also drive automation, optimize data assets, and explore emerging technologies to enhance our data management capabilities.

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with a strong background in designing and building modern data pipelines, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver impactful solutions. You should ideally thrive in an agile environment and have a proven ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and information management across complex organisations.
Critical must-haves include:
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Extensive experience as a Data Engineer, with expertise in modern data technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, and Fivetran.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and experience building relational data models.
- Proficiency in data pipeline orchestration tools and a track record of optimizing processes to align with business goals.
