Mō te tūnga | About the role

We have a permanent Social Worker opportunity in our intake and assessment team who will be based at our Rotorua site. Travel will be required through the region as necessary; you will have use of a fleet vehicle therefore we do need a full clean drivers licence.

The intake and assessment team manages our reports of concerns, this includes completing initial visits to whanau and Tamariki, interviewing Tamariki, working closely with our community stakeholders, Iwi and Police. You will also be arranging hui-a-whanau and working with whanau and Tamariki to access community supports. We have a combination of experienced and new social workers who we think provide the best service and response to the whanau we work with.

The Rotorua tari is a busy site, the successful applicant will need to be able to think on their feet, be a team player and willing to work towards the best outcomes for Tamariki and whanau we are involved with

Key requirements of the role also include:

  • A Social Work Qualification with Full Registration and current Annual Practising Certificate with the New Zealand Social Worker Registration Board
  • A passion for working with children and youth, connecting, understanding, and building relationships to help provide positive outcomes for our them.
  • A strong and genuine commitment to strength-based practice
  • A preference and understanding of Te Ao Māori and indigenous models of practice
  • Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills with strong written and verbal communication skills (you will need to provide professional written and verbal feedback to the courts)
  • Demonstrated resilience, problem solving techniques and flexibility
  • An understanding and awareness of the Oranga Tamariki Act, 1989
  • Proven expertise and social work practice in child protection and an understanding of New Zealand Legislation that relates to the safety of children and young people
  • A full, clean, current driver's licence
  • An ability to work as a team player with resilience in what can be highly stressful situations
