The Company
My client is a very large business with operations that span the globe. The company has a proud heritage in NZ having been around for a long time but today is owned offshore. The NZ operation is very large for NZ standards and consequently the NZ business has multiple jurisdictions under their remit. The business has a down to earth Kiwi culture but due to its complexity requires agile, resilient and hardworking people who can think laterally.

The Role
The role of Commercial Manager supports the 3 business units. This role will report directly to the Head of Commercial. You will get to partner the operations and sales heads of these business units and work very closely with the businesses themselves. This is where you need to determine the amount of travel required to effectively business partner and ensures you understand what is happening in each of your operations. The core responsibilities include:
• Drive progress towards achievement of the strategy, budget & 5 year plan including meaningful progress reporting
• Provide financial modelling for the business for decision making
• Prepare margin analysis and implement improvements to support the business in achievement of financial targets
• Prepare the annual budget for the allocated business units
• Review the budget and work with managers to help understanding and achievement, tracking performance
• Consolidate forecast information
• Identify risk and opportunities for the business
• Provide insights and report thereon to the business
• Develop enhanced reporting capability to the business
• Ensure capex processes are managed and provide support to the business as required
• Manage WIP as required
• KPI performance measurement
• Business partner operations, building strong relationships with the business to ensure regulatory and best practice financial disciplines are managed
• Lead and develop the direct reporting line of one business partner but also provide an overarching leadership role and influence the business as required
• Other ad hoc duties as required.


Your profile:
To be considered for this role we are looking for an individual who is commercially savvy who truly understands operations and can effectively business partner non-financial people. You must have the following attributes:
• An ability to work in a unstructured environment
• Strong communication skills and the ability to relate cross functionally across the business
• Strong analytical capability with a curiosity toward the business drivers
• Strong systems and data analytics capability
• An ability to make sense of numbers and interpret them to provide useful information to mgmt.
• A common sense practical mindset
• An ability to self manage
