Job Description

Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the iconic Mount Hot Pools, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of 24 facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.

Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!

Are you ready to take the helm of Tauranga's brand-new sport and recreation facility? Bay Venues Ltd is on the lookout for a dynamic and experienced Venue Supervisor to oversee venue operations and customer service delivery at the University of Waikato Haumaru Sport & Recreation Centre located at 483 Cameron Road Tauranga.

Based at the University of Waikato Haumaru Sport & Recreation Centre (483 Cameron Road), you will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the operation of the Centre. Tasks will include staff supervision and support, undertaking general site maintenance, assisting in the set up/pack down of sports equipment for leagues, competitions or tournaments and events, some reception and customer service tasks as well as undertaking cleaning of the venues and equipment as required.

The hours available are Tuesday – Saturday with some shifts rostered until 10pm. 38 hours per week.
Occasionally the hours will extend to include more weekend work, especially during events. This is rostered with you ahead of time. Flexibility is essential as this is determined by business demands. In return, our remuneration package includes a competitive wage with excellent staff benefits.

We need someone with a passion for sport and recreation with proven experience in venue and staff supervision along with customer service delivery. Your excellent relationship-building skills, exceptional organisational abilities, and willingness to get hands-on when needed will set you apart.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Building strong relationships with customers and regular users
  • Have experience in delivering exceptional customer service
  • Overseeing venue maintenance, bookings, and operations
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance
  • Supervise and support staff
  • Be professional in your demeanour and think clearly when under pressure
  • Maintain a high standard of personal presentation
  • Able to use a computer/tablet competently as well as being reasonably fluent in Microsoft suite. Experience using a leisure management system or booking system would be advantageous
  • Be physically fit as some heavy lifting is required
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with a high attention to detail
  • Current first aid is desirable but not essential.

We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun. Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:

  • a gym membership to our ClubFit Gyms,
  • access to our five aquatic facilities including BayWave and Mount Hot Pools,
  • subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
  • heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
  • access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme

So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture. No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our vision of creating The Best Venues for the Bay. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
