Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The Principal Systems Engineer (Network) acts as the technical lead across network working closely with the Practice Lead Infrastructure and Network to balance the day-to-day demand with preparing for the future with robust, resilient and scalable capability and capacity. You’ll assist in leading design, provision, operation, security and management of network services whether physical, logical, shared, hosted, or as-a-Service based while anticipating, modelling and shaping capacity and demand across the teaching / learning, research and corporate aspects of the university.

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Provide technical leadership for the overall network and network services including design and implementation
Assist the Practice Lead in design, deployment and management of the network and network services across the university
Act as the technical lead across all aspects of networks including strategic consulting and project planning
Ensure service availability, robustness and reliability and manage improvements to the network and innovative uses of available technologies
Ensure security and privacy of users and services
Provide expert advice and design and/or implement innovative solutions
Drive change through technical, and strategic alignment
Mentor others in your team
Collaborate to meet university technology strategies

Ko koe tēnei | Who You Are

Tertiary qualified in IT or business management, or equivalent experience
Extensive leadership experience in IT, particularly in networks and network services
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a principal engineer or related position
Proven ability to contribute effectively to projects and stakeholder relationships
Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty and, crucially, challenging change
Knowledge of strategic IT issues, especially in educational or government contexts

Many of the IT Services teams and business stakeholders are based on our Palmerston North campus, which is the preferred location for this role. Consideration may be given for the right candidate to be based at our Wellington Campus, however regular travel (minimum of 1 day per week) to Palmerston North will be required.

This is a full time (37.5hrs) role and appointment will be commensurate of skills and experience within a Grade 8 ($94,210 - $126,536) range.
