Job Description

The Role:

Our transactional banking and finance team is growing. We have a fantastic opportunity for a lawyer with 5+ years’ experience working in the commercial banking and finance practice area to join our team.

Your relevant experience will include:

  • 5+ years’ experience in transactional banking and finance
  • Familiarity with all aspects of loan, security and guarantee work, including familiarity with the PPSA
  • Domestic (and, ideally, cross-border) transactional financing work experience
  • Familiarity with e-dealing and certain regulations (such as the CCCFA) would be beneficial but not necessary
  • Dealing with a broad range of clients in financing transactions

Your attributes will include:

  • A team player who wants to contribute to a supportive and collaborative team environment
  • A desire to work closely with clients as one of their trusted advisors with a laser focus on delivering excellent client service
  • A high-performance mind-set with good commercial acumen balanced with attention to detail
  • Someone who wants to learn and grow, and who aspires to build a career as a recognised expert in the banking and finance practice area

Who will you be working with?

Our transactional banking and finance team is currently led by Liz Lim in Auckland and we are growing.

We help our clients achieve their goals in the full range of local and cross-border financing transactions, including corporate and commercial, leveraged, property, construction and asset financing, receivables financing, and securitisations; we also regularly advise on consumer credit and financial service provider laws and help financial service providers set up shop in New Zealand. Our clients range from banks and other financial institutions to SMEs and start-ups. The Auckland team is part of our national banking and financial markets team (Auckland and Wellington – led by Cat Grover, David Ireland and Tom McLaughlin) and we work closely as one team.

What do we offer?

We offer you the opportunity to be part of a high-performing, positive and inclusive team that works in partnership with our clients and other teams locally and across the Dentons network, where you will get plenty of valuable experience and mentoring. We are a future-focussed firm and that ethos extends to our people too.
We offer competitive remuneration along with benefits that will make a positive difference to your life:

  • We invest in our people, so learning and development are key.
  • Lifestyle leave – we recognise that people have busy lives so there is the opportunity to buy extra leave each year.
  • Dedicated wellness programme.
  • Paid parental leave of 26 weeks/5 weeks for non-primary caregiver.
  • Access to free in-house legal advice.
  • We dress for our day and our role.
  • Regular social events, including Friday Fives, sporting and charity events, annual balls, family Christmas parties, and an end of year function.
  • An extra paid holiday for Dentons Kensington Swan Day.

Dentons Kensington Swan is Rainbow Tick certified. We believe inclusion drives diversity and fostering an environment where our people thrive through diversity of thought and shared experience makes us the successful global firm we are. We encourage applications irrespective of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or disability.
