About the role and who we are looking for:

We are recruiting for a charismatic and dynamic Cafe & Retail Manager to lead our retail operations at our NZDF - Devonport. It is a Permanent Full Time position, rostered across Monday to Sunday, weekend shifts will be required.

The Cafe & Retail Manager is employed to manage the catering operations in a safe and efficient manner. This role is also responsible for ensuring that all tasks associated with food production are performed with due regard for all Health and Safety and Food Safety regulations.

For our customers our goal is simple, to provide great service, innovative good food focusing on freshness and value, all produced with care as well as a core range of retail items, and military memorabilia and a duty-free retail service.

What would you be expected to do:

  • Manage contracts to provide services
  • Maintain customer satisfaction
  • Recruit, induct and train staff
  • Lead and manage people
  • Develop, implement and manage staff roster
  • Effectively manage the cost of goods and/or food within the workplace
  • Prepare reports for management
  • Develop and update legal /regulatory knowledge required for business compliance
  • Manage finances within a budget
  • Plan the catering for an event or function
  • Manage facilities associated with commercial catering contracts
  • Ensure Responsible Service of Alcohol


About you:

You would be an ideal candidate if you;

  • Have previous and proven experience managing a successful retail site
  • Have previous experience in hospitality with cooking (preferred but not essential)
  • Have proven leadership experience, coaching, mentoring
  • Focused on Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • Demonstrated understanding of Food Safety including HACCP and CCP's
  • Computer savvy (MS Office suite - Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Are innovative and prepared to share ideas, learnings and failings
  • Can collaborate and corporate with stakeholders across the business
