Our Strategy, Policy, and Research team plays a pivotal role in crafting innovative, long-term strategies that drive the city's growth and sustainability, by providing analysis, insight, advice, and intellectual leadership to inform the Council's future direction and decision making to ensure Pōneke remains resilient and livable for generations to come.
We are currently seeking a Senior Advisor - Strategy on a fixed term basis to join our team and help steer the Council's strategic priorities. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the city's future and create lasting impact. Although this is fixed term through to the 30th of June 2025, there may be an option to extend.
As a Senior Advisor - Strategy, you will be providing high-level strategic advice on policy and activities that shapes the future of Pōneke. Your work will directly influence key policy areas, ensuring that the Council's strategies are forward-thinking, data-driven, and aligned with the city's long-term vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Development and Policy Innovation: Lead the development of future-facing strategies and policies that position Pōneke for long-term success.
- Data-Driven Insights: Conduct analysis to help inform and translating this data into actionable recommendations that inform strategic direction.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with senior leaders across the Council, ensuring that strategies align with broader objectives, and foster a collaborative environment.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders to ensure our strategies are informed by diverse perspectives and reflect the needs of our communities.
What We're Looking For:
We are seeking a strategic thinker who brings the following skills and experience:
- Expertise in Strategy: Proven experience in policy development within the public sector with a deep understanding of governance.
- Analytical Abilities: Ability to analyse complex data and extract meaningful insights that drive decision-making.
- Influence: Demonstrated ability to shape strategic direction and influence key decision-makers within and outside of government.
- Systems Thinking: Ability to take a holistic view of policy impacts, balancing short-term challenges with long-term sustainability and growth.
- Strong Communication Skills: Expertise in delivering high-quality strategic reports, presentations, and briefings to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Relationship Building: Skilled at working cross-functionally, engaging with diverse groups to ensure alignment on strategic priorities and achieve collective goals.
