Te Wero – The Challenge
We are seeking a skilled engineer to join the Road Safety and Traffic Engineering team. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in an environment that fosters on the job problem solving and quick thinking.
The purpose for this role is to provide professional land development and engineering advice for resource consents and land use pertaining to the transport network. You will provide transport engineering input into FNDC’s District Plan and policy reviews, particularly the Transport Rules and Engineering Standards to ensure positive transport outcomes for community. You will be a resource for FNDC Staff including input into road safety audits, fatal crash investigations, and scoping and development of active transport or road safety projects.

We are looking for a team player who enjoys engaging with people, and providing positive outcomes for our communities.
We are looking from someone with NZCE, Diploma or degree qualification and Civil Engineering work experience. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills working with local contractors, providers and community groups.
Strong organisational and time management skills are essential to your success. The ability to write quality reports for a variety of audiences will be part of your skillset.
Experience with the following would be an advantage:
Specific experience in Development Engineering (subdivisions)
Familiar with District Plan Rules, Local Government Act, Land Transport Act
Familiar with AUSTROAD Guide to Road Design and Council Engineering Standards
Familiar with the Safe System Approach and the NZ Road Safety Strategy
Familiar with Road Safety Audits
Conversant with NZ Transport Agency standards, guidelines and funding processes
Knowledge of or a willingness to learn Tikanga Māori.

The salary for this position is Grade 16 within Council's salary structure (Band: $85,004 to $100,005 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
