Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Programmes and Events Marketing and Communications Adviser will be responsible for developing and executing communications and marketing strategies that promote the University’s programmes and events. This includes both internal and external communications, with a focus on increasing visibility, engagement, and attendance at key academic and community events.

The Adviser will work closely with faculties, departments, and event organisers to ensure cohesive, impactful marketing campaigns that highlight the University’s role as a leader in education and research, bringing together creativity, strategic vision, and technical expertise to design and implement successful campaigns and events. The ability to engage audiences, manage complex projects, and collaborate effectively across teams will be key to driving the success of the University’s programmes and events.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who is passionate about managing the entire lifecycle of a marketing campaign for events and programmes. While identifying objectives, defining target audiences, creating messaging, selecting appropriate channels, monitoring performance, and adjusting strategies as necessary.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position.

The salary is between $72,000 – $84,709 per annum, depending on skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of strategic, creative, and analytical skills, along with a deep understanding of brand management, audience engagement, and campaign execution.

You will be proactive, confident, highly detail oriented and a true team player, along with excellent communications and time management skills. Having a strong focus on relationship building and stakeholder management with proven experience working in/with an advertising, marketing, and public relations agency.

You will be someone who likes to stay ahead of emerging trends in marketing communications and industry best practices to drive innovation and ensure campaigns are always cutting-edge.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years’) of experience in marketing and communications, with a focus on event promotion and programme marketing, ideally within an academic or higher education setting.
  • Strong understanding of marketing principles and a track record of delivering successful, results-driven campaigns.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create engaging content.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience in managing multi-channel campaigns across digital, print, social media, email, video, and events.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Suite, CMS systems, digital advertising tools, and analytics platforms and producing reports is essential.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently, with a commitment to contributing to team outcomes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service with an ability to communicate at all levels in cross-cultural work environments
  • Knowledge of Te Reo and Te Ao Māori would be advantageous
