Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

We are seeking an experienced people leader to join our Standards and Import Pathways group which sits within our Biosecurity Import and Export Standards Directorate.

The Team Manager Live Plants leads a team of technical specialists who set and maintain standards to manage biosecurity risks on imports of plants and seeds for cultivation. This team's role is important for supporting trade to deliver government's goal of doubling exports through improved availability of plant genetics, but also ensuring food security for New Zealanders all the while managing biosecurity risk to agriculture and the environment.

This is an exciting time for the Live Plants team as we have the mandate for a new regulatory project to redesign the plants for planting import framework. As the manager will be a champion of change to drive the project and ensure that standards are maintained under the current framework.

Mōu - About You

You will be a collaborative manager with experience building a strong team culture to lead and implement change. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven management experience, ideally from the public sector environment, and in a regulatory development role
  • Risk management experience, ideally within plant health or related discipline
  • Experience in developing strategies and initiatives to support the implementation of regulatory and non-regulatory tools and services
  • Experience in implementing significant regulatory change
  • Experience in navigating the machinery of government and understanding of regulatory best practice
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people, including demonstrated success working across business groups in a collaborative manner using effective influencing skills
  • A relevant tertiary or post graduate qualification

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

The Team Manager Live Plants reports to the Manager Standards & Import Pathways. This team is part of the Biosecurity Import and Export Standards directorate within Biosecurity New Zealand. You will be part of a management team, committed to collaborating across the Directorate to continually improve our regulatory practices. You will be managing a team of eight, consisting of a mix of advisers, senior and specialist advisers all located in Wellington.
