Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure has an opportunity for a Lifeguard position at our busy Moana Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre.
Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.

As a lifeguard, you are responsible for:
• Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
• Educating and enforcing pool rules.
• Responding to any First Aid emergencies.
• Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.

We are looking for a permanent full-time lifeguard working Tuesday to Saturday. Please note the shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre.

Our Centre opens from 5am to 7.15pm, the ability to work early morning, late evening, and weekends is essential.

He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for strong swimmers who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a lifeguard, you’ll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service. You will also need to have a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) and a current first aid certificate, however, training will be provided.

The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is passing the swim test, which consists:
• Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
• Swim 25m sidestroke
• Swim 50m breaststroke
• Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
• Tread water for 5 minutes

You will be required to attend the following training dates at Auckland Central and West Wave Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:
• April 14 – 25, 2025
