Devonport Library is a busy community library serving a literary community. We are looking for a flexible all-rounder to join and contribute as part of a high achieving, cohesive team.

You will be supporting the day to day operations of the library service (including Takapuna Library as needed), serving as a role model in great customer service to people of all ages and backgrounds. You will be engaging with customers in the library, making it easy for them to access the various library resources and services and ensuring that they have an unforgettable experience at the library.

In this role, in collaboration with Senior Librarian Children and Youth, you will have the opportunity to work closely within our local communities through a range of programmes: from children and youth activities in our library to outreach to community groups, local schools and early childhood centres. You will also create and deliver fun and exciting learning programmes and initiatives, both in person and online.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is motivated, organised, and able to independently design and deliver creative and engaging children and youth programmes, displays and resources.
  • Is experienced, knowledgeable, and confident in the use of social media to engage with parents, children and youth.
  • Can work with local community groups to co-design new and relevant children and youth initiatives.
  • Has interest in readers advisory especially for parents, children and youth as our customers are passionate readers and users of the library.
  • Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic. Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.
  • Has a flexible and collaborative approach to work, excellent communication, and attention to detail.
  • Is resilient, adaptable, reliable and able to foster great relationships within the team and across the local board.
  • Has demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Can ideally speak in one of our community languages.
  • Has a clean driver’s license.
