About the Role | Mō te Tūranga
We’re looking for a Category Development Manager - Commercial, to work alongside the merchandise trading teams, supporting and facilitating the optimization of commercial delivery through COGS reduction, better buying strategies and pricing & promotions optimization strategies.Reporting to the Head of Next Gen Buying, you will play a key part in delivering commercial outputs that align with our operating plans, helping to ensure our value proposition is supported by effective negotiation & pricing strategies, tools and processes.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to work with Category Managers & Merchandise Managers, translating advanced negotiation & planning strategies into tools and insights to effectively achieve these strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Be a part of the NextGen Buying team and actively work towards optimising our approach to supplier conversations, to improve outcomes for our customers through better buying, better promotions and competitive pricing.
- Support our trading teams in negotiations relating to Cost Price Increases to achieve better outcomes for our kiwi customers.
- Work across merchandise trading teams to support the management of pricing and promotions in general, ensuring the necessary tools, tracking and governance processes are adhered to.
- Support our trading teams in category reviews in formulating commercial objectives for the category and facilitate a supplier delivery plan to achieve those objectives.
- Actively participate & lead regular commercial forums for the merchandise leadership team.
- Work end-to-end and build strong connections and collaborative relationships across the merchandise team, commercial enablement team, and Wiq
- Be a highly visible and influential business partner to the trading team and actively drive the importance of Better Buying, Better Promotions & Competitive Pricing within the Woolworths NZ business.
- Upskill the trading teams to make commercial optimization part of their BAU so that WWNZ have a consistent approach to supplier conversations ensuring better outcomes for our customers.
- Provide support as required to the Head of Next Gen Buying, General Manager Commercial Enablement, and the Merchandise leadership team relating to general commercial performance.
About You | Mou
Ideally you’ll have demonstrated experience within category management gained within a retail environment. You will have a strong foundation in buying & merchandising and a passion for negotiations, and will be comfortable developing commercial strategies using a range of analytical resources. As a key interface with the merchandise trading teams, you’ll thrive in training and coaching others and have worked across matrixed organisations to deliver commercial strategies to drive business growth. The role requires exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills with demonstrated ability to build credibility.
