Location: Sawmill Brewery and Smoko Room, Matakana / 1004 Leigh Road
Reporting to: General Manager / Directors
Responsible for: Bar Manager / Assistant Manager /Front of House / Food Runners / Bar Staff
Min. hours weekly 30
Primary Function:
To manage the smooth day-to-day running of the restaurant. Train Smoko Room staff about all products, order of
service, POS systems, policies and to continue to train and nurture them throughout employment. Be accountable
for keeping staff motivated, on task and busy during quiet times. Perform cash-up duties. Change & print menus.
Maintain POS system. Communicate clearly with the kitchen daily re: menu changes, bookings and functions, and
ensure food is prepared and plated to an exceptional standard.
Key Responsibilities:
• Day to day management of all Smoko Room front of house staff
• Health and Safety training
• Train all staff how to use POS systems efficiently and confidently
• Manage lunch and dinner bookings.
• Manage daily service when on shift
• Ensure all staff adhere to Sawmill procedures and policies
• Ensure all customers receive excellent service
• Perform cash up/closing procedures
• Resolve customer issues as per Sawmill protocol
• Ensuring any sickness or accidents are noted and appropriate action taken
• Ensure production of food and drinks are prepared and presented to an exceptional level
• Lead by example
• Maintain staff morale and set the Sawmill company culture
• Ensure public holiday surcharges are implemented correctly
Secondary Responsibilities (alongside General Manager):
• Ensure wage costs conform to set targets across the Smoko Room
• Contribute to the ongoing training and growth of junior team members
• Ensure all staff adhere to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012
• Implementation and organisation of large events / functions
• Contribute to staff meetings and staff training sessions
• Support staff through any difficulties, be they with customers, colleagues or with their duties
• Work co-operatively with other staff and managers, ensuring a positive working environment
• Ensure all equipment & restaurant environments are operational and maintained
• Have input in the building / redesigning of systems
Joint Responsibilities by negotioation alongside General Manager
• Weekly front of house rostering
Competencies:
At least two years relevant work experience
Technical: Hold a current General Manager Certificate, training skills, computer skills, organisation skills.
Interpersonal: Excellent communication skills, motivational and leadership skills, customer skills, team player,
knowledge of employment agreements, ability to give instructions, ability to communicate and work both
independently to collaboratively with the General Manager.
