As a branded business unit within MPI, we work with tangata whenua, landowners and the forestry and wood processing sectors to make the most of our forests contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand's social, cultural, environmental, and economic wellbeing.
Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Reporting to the Deputy Director-General of Te Uru Rākau, this pivotal leadership role focuses on enhancing Te Uru Rākau's forestry support services as the front door for stakeholders nationwide. You will oversee the integration of regional teams, subject matter experts, and stakeholder engagement functions to provide cohesive, high-impact advice and support to landowners, farmers, and sector partners.
Your ability to build trust and credibility with stakeholders and lead capability improvements within the team will be essential to success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving partnerships with land managers, Māori landowners, regional councils, and industry bodies to strengthen engagement with Te Uru Rākau.
- Leading regional teams to deliver high-quality advice and support, ensuring alignment with Te Uru Rākau's strategic direction.
- Managing specialist teams to deliver consistent programme development and expertise in native forestry, biosecurity, and sustainable land use.
- Enhancing Te Uru Rākau's external brand through meaningful stakeholder engagement and strategic initiatives.
Mōu | About You
To thrive in this role, you will be an experienced leader with a deep understanding of New Zealand's forestry and land management sectors. You will bring proven expertise in building high-performing teams and fostering collaborative partnerships across diverse audiences.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have demonstrated experience in leading operational teams, particularly in field-based and customer-facing environments.
- Be skilled in building partnerships with Māori landowners, regional councils, and sector organisations.
- Possess knowledge of primary industries, resource management, and regional processes.
- Be an adept communicator with the ability to align programmes with strategic objectives.
- Demonstrate strong cultural awareness and a commitment to equity in outcomes.
- A tertiary qualification in forestry, resource management, or a related field is desirable.
