Mt Iron Joinery is a Wanaka based joinery company specialising in custom joinery for new or renovated homes with a growing client base in Upper Clutha and Central Otago regions. We cater predominantly to the high end residential market, giving our clients high quality personalised service, while also maintaining high quality in a wide range of woodworking projects.

We are on the lookout for a passionate Designer / Detailer to join our team who is eager to grow their skillset and develop further in hand crafted locally made furniture.

You'll play a vital role in the team bringing our unique projects to life within our manufacturing facility. Mt Iron Joinery is also stepping into the custom designed furniture where this role will allow the selected applicant to venture into creating beautiful custom designed pieces.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Consult with new/existing clients to brief for new projects and prepare concepts.
  • Enter designs, set up projects, update project specification groups and prepare for quotes.
  • Take revisions and enter them into existing designs, track changes for later reference.
  • Build client specific parametric cabinets for production.
  • Site measures and Production Manager liaison to revise CAD design to production standards.
  • Document and present hard copies fit for assembly team and installation.
  • Prepare one off replacement part cut files and run machinery to produce.
  • Design custom furniture for clients, and new designs for range furniture.
  • Prepare designs and specifications of products for mass or batch production.
  • Plan, design, develop and document industrial, commercial or consumer products for manufacture with particular emphasis on ergonomic (human) factors.


Our ideal candidate will have proven experience in joinery design / detailing, the ability to prioritise their workload and time, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality designs and exceeding expectations.

To be considered for this role, you should be a team player, punctual, well-presented, polite, and well-mannered, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and hold a current New Zealand drivers licence.
