He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council has a significant role to play in leading and supporting positive change for whānau Māori. Te Waka Kerewai – the Māori Outcomes Unit – is a new team in Connected Communities seeking to increase our impact and use our influence to realise our vision: ‘Kia tū rangitira te whānau’ – powerful whānau making powerful decisions.

The Pou Takawaenga – Māori advisor role sits within the Māori Participation and Partnership team.
Your contribution to projects, programmes and services will help to ensure that we:
- Increase our impact on whānau wellbeing through strong relationships and partnerships
- Champion high value projects that give effect to whānau priorities and aspirations
- Embed whānau aspirations into our mahi in design and decision making
- Provide strategic leadership and support to staff and work alongside to increase access for Māori to council services and investment
- Build our capacity to work in a Māori centred way.

Our work programme and strategy is guided by Auckland Council’s Māori outcomes framework Kia Ora Tāmaki Makaurau.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You will be valued for your ability to develop high trust relationships with mana whenua, Māori communities, kaupapa Māori organisations and whānau Māori to ensure Māori aspiration is at the heart of what we do. You are able to negotiate and influence across a wide range of stakeholders. You will be valued for your knowledge of mātauranga Māori in the workplace and have a background of actively working across multiple knowledge systems. You can work both at a community level and in a corporate environment. You are committed to bi-cultural ways of working, and have experience in programmes with cultural, community or social outcomes.

Skills in co-design, community-led development, facilitation, placemaking, leading and supporting projects and policy development will be highly valued.
