The Points Person at the landfill site plays a critical role in ensuring smooth traffic flow, maintaining safety standards, and assisting with the effective operation of the landfill. This role involves directing trucks, equipment, and personnel to designated areas, helping to minimize congestion, prevent accidents, and ensure operational efficiency. The Points Person will also provide assistance in monitoring incoming waste and supporting general operational tasks on the landfill site.
Key Responsibilities:
Traffic Control:
- Direct and manage the flow of vehicles, trucks, and equipment entering and exiting the landfill site.
- Assist in guiding drivers to appropriate disposal areas and loading zones.
- Ensure safe and orderly unloading of waste and debris in designated locations.
- Communicate with drivers to ensure they follow safety protocols and landfill procedures.
Safety Monitoring:
- Enforce strict safety measures for all personnel and equipment on the landfill site.
- Be vigilant for potential hazards, including obstructions, moving equipment, and unsafe practices.
- Assist in coordinating emergency responses in case of accidents, spills, or other incidents.
- Report safety concerns or unsafe practices to supervisors and work with other team members to address these issues.
Communication and Coordination:
- Act as a liaison between drivers, landfill operators, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
- Use radios, flags, or other signaling devices to communicate with vehicles and personnel.
- Relay operational instructions, safety information, and site changes to all relevant staff members.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work closely with other landfill staff, including equipment operators, scale attendants, and environmental compliance teams.
Assist in general operations, as needed, during peak times or periods of high traffic.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a Pre-Employment drug screen and complete a satisfactory Ministry of Justice criminal records check.
