Campus Life’s purpose is to create a vibrant, engaging and supportive campus experience. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the Campus Life leadership team as Manager Student Conduct Service.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

The Manager Student Conduct Service plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment at the University of Auckland. This role oversees the work of the Student Conduct Office to ensure timely and effective resolution of student conduct and discipline matters. The Manager leads investigations relating to student conduct and discipline, often involving complex problems and highly sensitive issues.

The role advises academic and professional staff on student general misconduct, including formal, informal, and alternative discipline and conflict resolution processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Student Conduct: Review, advise on, and manage student general misconduct and complaints in alignment with University policies, procedures, and statutes. Undertake investigations, prepare reports and recommendations, and ensure appropriate communication throughout conduct cases.
  • Advice & Support: Provide education and support to staff and student groups regarding behavioural complaints. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote effective service delivery and utilise best practice knowledge and expertise.
  • Operational Management: Develop and manage consistent processes for the management of general misconduct complaints and incident investigations. Identify and recommend approaches to minimise risks to the University community.
  • Reporting: Ensure rigorous and accurate data collection on notifications, complaints, and incidents. Provide specialised advice, correspondence, recommendations, and reports for senior management on student misconduct and discipline issues.
  • Stakeholder Leadership: Develop and implement a stakeholder communications plan to ensure key stakeholders are aware of student conduct and discipline matters. Liaise with elected student representatives to discuss improvement areas.
  • Policy: Contribute to policy and procedures, making recommendations for improvements based on experience. Ensure all aspects of service delivery and advice comply with laws and University policies.

About you | He kōrero mōu

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating a safe and equitable environment for students and can demonstrate significant experience in managing student conduct and discipline matters including sensitive and complex cases, providing expert advice, conducting investigations and working in discipline or regulatory matters, and complaints.

You will bring strong skills in managing and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders, applying policy and legal principles, and working in a multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural environment.

Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing, are crucial, along with the ability to handle confidential information with diplomacy
