Here's an opportunity to lead the NZ Herald and Viva’s lifestyle coverage as one of our senior editorial leaders, reporting to the Chief Content Officer - Publishing. Your strategic vision will shape the digital lifestyle content we offer across various domains such as fashion, entertainment, home, travel, wellness, food, and more.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT:
- Set the strategic direction for digital premium and free lifestyle content, including planning, scheduling and overseeing the execution of complex content projects.
- Build a sustainable market-leading subscriber base and commercially successful audience-driven lifestyle vertical.
- Develop and implement effective content strategies based on a deep understanding of the target audience and the business' commercial needs. Use analytics and insights and monitor competitors to help achieve this.
- Direct and coach journalists and lifestyle team leaders to deliver trusted quality journalism.
- Develop strong relationships with key commercial stakeholders and influencers across New Zealand.
- Take ownership of the lifestyle budget, ensuring efficient use of resources while managing contributor and freelance costs.
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with other teams across NZME to ensure seamless, integrated news coverage.
- Support the newsroom’s editorial mission, promoting a culture of excellence, accuracy, and trust.
ABOUT YOU:
- You bring at least 10 years of experience in a senior newsroom role, with a proven track record in producing or overseeing the production of high-quality, in-depth lifestyle content.
- You’re a natural leader, who excels at guiding teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment where everyone can thrive.
- You will have developed and implemented effective content strategies and have a broad commercial understanding of the industry.
- You are passionate about lifestyle news and have the ability to stay calm under pressure, managing multiple tasks and changing priorities with ease.
- With a keen understanding of audience needs, you use data to tailor content that not only informs but captivates.
- You possess excellent communication skills and are able to confidently liaise with stakeholders inside and outside the organisation while maintaining strong relationships across the newsroom.
- You will work closely with the commercial teams to develop ideas that have a strong brand fit and perform strongly to engage readers and work seamlessly alongside quality journalism.
- You bring vision and a forward-thinking approach, aligning your work with NZME’s goals and pushing the boundaries of storytelling to build engaged, loyal audiences.
