He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As a Trainee Track Worker, you’ll be part of a close-knit team responsible for maintaining and repairing railway tracks and infrastructure. You’ll work outdoors in all weather, using specialised tools and equipment to ensure the rail network remains safe and reliable.
No prior rail experience? No problem! We provide full training to build your skills and confidence, helping you progress in your rail career.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team to maintain and repair railway tracks and infrastructure.
- Learn to use tools and machinery safely and effectively.
- Follow strict safety protocols in a high-risk environment.
- Contribute to team discussions and Toolbox meetings.
- Attend on-the-job and classroom training to develop your skills.

This is a hands-on, physical role, so we’re looking for someone with a great attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
We’re looking for:
- A team player who enjoys working with others.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A strong focus on health & safety – looking out for yourself and your team.
- A Full NZ Driver’s Licence (or Restricted, if you can secure a Full within 6 months).
- Class 2 Licence would be an advantage.
- A positive, “can-do” attitude and eagerness to develop new skills.
