Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are excited to announce we have an opportunity for a Network Engineer to join our team. As a Network Engineer, in alignment with the University IT Service Delivery Model, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Operate and manage the University of Auckland’s Network through hands on installation of our platforms
  • Work alongside other engineers to deliver solutions for our customers
  • Provide input into and help deliver the network road map
  • Provide technical guidance to other delivery teams (End user services, etc.,)
  • Provide guidance and support to peers within existing skill set.
  • Work with Architecture teams to ensure delivered solution complies with architectural standards
  • Establish & maintain constructive working relationships with delivery teams
  • Comfortable with having a level of autonomy on technical issues
  • Isolate and restore network issues, assist with problem solving, and develop such technical overview documentation as is necessary
  • Build and support network services to a high level of ongoing maintainability, availability, and continuous integration
  • Promote and contribute to continually improving the team's delivery processes

Please note this is a fulltime (37.5 hours/ week), permanent position with a salary range of $84,000 - $90,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.

Qualifications

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

  • IT related professional qualification, or evidence of successful completion of post-secondary IT training courses, or equivalent industry experience
  • Industry standard certifications e.g., CCNA
  • Experience in network technologies.
  • Knowledge of cabling topologies
  • Knowledge of network protocols and technologies.
  • Wireless experience and wireless protocol knowledge
  • IP management and DNS experience
  • ITIL Foundation certification


To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-starter who is comfortable working within an ambiguous and complex environment. The network engineer role is customer facing, providing wired and wireless network connectivity to professional staff, academics, researchers and students. The network engineer role is a hands-on role, with practical installation and implementation of switches and wireless access points required. Business as Usual (BAU – outlet livening-network incident response) activities will predominantly be the core focus, with opportunity to work on larger infrastructure projects as they arise.

Once you have obtained suitable local knowledge, you will be expected to be included in the on-call roster.
