Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and culturally fluent Cancer Support Nurse Specialist to provide crucial support to individuals and families within the Pasifika community. This role involves working directly within the community, offering personalised nursing care to those affected by cancer and ensuring that culturally relevant and community-based support is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing support to people diagnosed with cancer and their families, conducting home visits and assessments within the community
  • Offer accurate, evidence-based information on cancer, tailored to the needs of patients, families, and supporters
  • Maintain culturally appropriate and respectful communication with clients, ensuring services align with Pasifika values and needs
  • Coordinate support with internal and external services, ensuring clients have access to necessary resources and services
  • Provide nursing care that includes emotional, social, and practical support to patients in their homes and within community settings
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of community-based initiatives, ensuring that services are accessible and effective for Pasifika families.


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Fluent in Pasifika languages with an understanding of cultural practices and values
  • A Registered Nurse with at least two years of clinical experience, preferably with a background in Oncology/Haematology and community nursing
  • Completion of or pursuing graduate or post-graduate studies in Oncology/Haematology nursing
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect with Pasifika families and offer culturally sensitive care
  • A current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate and a full New Zealand Driver's Licence
