The Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
This role is permanent part time, working 32 hours per week Friday – Monday, 3pm to 11.30pm in Hamilton.
The role of the youth worker involves working alongside the taiohi to meet their day to day needs and supporting them on their journey to reach their full potential in ways which recognise and celebrate the mana of the young person.

In this role you will:

  • Support young people between the ages of 12-18 in a residential respite setting with a core focus on supporting their mental health through a trauma informed lens
  • Be busy supporting young people with independent daily living skills, help them plan and work towards individual goals and support them with activities or outings
  • Have good people skills and able to work independently and within a wider team.
  • Might attend appointments and advocate for our taiohi
  • Be prepared to do whatever it takes for the people we support - cooking, cleaning, gardening, and helping with everyday tasks.


You | Mōu
You will:

  • Hold a Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW) or a recognised equivalent or be studying towards a recognised equivalent.
  • Have experience in working with young people and an understanding of trauma-informed care. 
  • Have both de-escalation skills and relationship building skills.   
  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver’s  
  • Hold a current New Zealand first aid certificate or be prepared to obtain one.
  • Have knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
