Job Description

We are looking for a GIS Analyst to join our dynamic City Insights GIS Team.

Are you passionate about spatial data and mapping? Join the City Insights team as a GIS Analyst and play a key role in supporting spatial components of the projects focused on housing, transport, and Spatial Planning in the city.

The focus for the City Insights Team is the delivery of high- quality spatial analysis and data visualization to inform the development and implementation of urban and transport planning and assist with decision-making. This team prides themselves of their continuous learning, and ability to be collaborative as they value diverse perspectives and encourage innovative thinking to solve complex problems.

In your role you will:

  • Create detailed maps, visualizations, and reports to represent spatial data and support decision-making.
  • Provide specialist and innovative geospatial advice for housing, transport and urban development projects.
  • Collaborate with Wellington City Council teams and other local authorities to ensure delivery of timely, high-quality project outcomes.
  • Use advanced spatial analysis tools to solve complex spatial questions.
  • Assist in optimizing workflows and contribute to team deliverables.


The ideal person for this role will have a tertiary degree in GIS, Geography, Data Science, or a related field and demonstrate:

  • Experience with GIS and spatial analysis, with strong proficiency in ESRI suite (desktop and online).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to present complex data in a clear and actionable way.
  • An understanding of spatial data principles, map production, and workflows related to GIS tools. Familiarity with advanced visualization techniques is a plus.
  • Experience in programming languages such as SQL and/or Python is desirable but not necessary.
  • Be solutions focused when faced with issues and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Value being in a team and can contribute to a positive, can-do culture.


We are looking to appoint between $85,645 - $100,758 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.
