Job Description
The opportunity
The Automation Systems Engineer role is to provide Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation support to the Downer Water and Projects business. This is a fulltime permanent role reporting into the Operational Technology and Automation Lead based out of our Dunedin office. The projects can range from electrical, instrumentation and automation construction and maintenance contracts across NZ which you maybe be required to travel to and will offer the opportunity to step into a lead role once embedded into the business.
What you’ll do
- Automation Systems Engineer will take responsibility for the delivery of all Control and Automation facets of a project.
- Creation of project methodology, Level 2 Functional Descriptions, assist with value engineering and programmes for construction and other activities required for the project including minor EICA design.
- Ensure project documentation including L2 FD’s, FAT and SAT’s are delivered and completed with Commissioning test sheets and the Automation portion of the O&M manuals.
- Conduct project “start-up” meeting and establish key hold points or project stage review points
- Produce drawings for clients on design outcomes across EICA activities

What we’re looking for
- Must hold either an electrical trade certificate or a tertiary qualification in electrical engineering.
- Be a recognised systems engineer with the ability to program SCADA, HMI’s, RTU’s and PLC’s from numerous manufacturers
- At least 3 - 5 years’ experience of Electrical, Instrumentation or Automation in an Industrial environment. Electrical design
- Detailed understanding of the principles of PLC, RTU’s, HMI programming and SCADA systems.
- Understanding of Schneider, Siemens and Rockwell products.
