Job Description

We are seeking candidates interested in short-term, fixed-term, or hourly rate contracts for Senior Advisor positions within central government. These roles involve managing official correspondence, preparing briefings, and overseeing proactive information releases, requiring the ability to work efficiently and at pace. These organisations aim to improve the lives of everyday New Zealander's through effective governance and policy implementation.

We are seeking candidates for short term Senior Advisor contracts focused on supporting ministerial duties, briefings and official correspondence. These roles involve several key responsibilities and require a diverse set of skills.

They will also involve coordination of activities across multiple teams and processes, managing time lines, and contributing to the development of high-quality responses to Official Information Act requests and other ministerial requests. Strong organisational and time management skills are crucial.

About you:

  • Experience in a senior advisory role (or comparable role), managing machinery of government processes, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice.
  • Bring at least five years of experience working with Official Information Act Requests, Proactive Releases, Written Parliamentary Questions
  • Have the ability to work across organisations to a high level, and build purposeful relationships
  • Clear, concise, communication skills with particular strengths in writing.
  • Apply strong analytical skills, quickly assimilate new information, and write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely fora range of audiences.
  • Have experience in writing concise documentation for public use.
  • Risk Management and Adaptability; the ability to identify and manage risks, adapt to changing circumstances, and prioritise tasks is important. Candidates should be flexible and capable of responding to evolving needs efficiently.
  • These roles will provide senior technical advice across various formats and for diverse audiences to inform decision-making. They require the ability to take a systems view, drawing on data and insights to produce sound analysis and recommendations, even in complex and ambiguous situations.


Ideal candidates will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field, experience in senior advisory roles, and a strong understanding of machinery of government.
