Due to an internal promotion, I am excited to share with you an opportunity to join the Papakura Local Board team at Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini as the Librarian: Pasifika

Takaanini is a Bi-lingual Whaanau Hub that seeks to respond to the call of whaanau aspirations to create a place of value and belonging by weaving te ao Maaori through our whare. The three pou this whare operates under are:

  • Pou Maatauranga: An inclusive approach to activate spaces to learn and play.
  • Pou Hauora: Whānau live well, are happy and healthy.
  • Pou Oritetanga: Equitable access to facilities to grow community wellbeing kaupapa.

This whare is a bold attempt to indigenise how we create space, how we manage resources, how we build teams, how we listen, how we act, how we serve.

This is a permanent opportunity, working 40 hours per week Tuesday to Saturday. Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini is open 7 days, so flexibility around working hours is a must.

He angituutanga: The opportunity
Te Paataka koorero o Takaanini delivers an integrated service for customers to access library services, creative facilities, community programmes, bookable spaces and customer services all under one roof.
In this role you will have the opportunity to develop and deliver a range of Pasifika-centric library programmes and work closely with our Pasifika communities. In addition, you will also support the delivery of our regular library programmes for Tamariki, rangatahi and whanau.

You will be an advocate for the Pasifika voice and develop key relationships in the local Pasifika community. You’ll provide a level of customer service that is second to none. You will proactively embrace current, new and emerging technology and support customers and staff to successfully use information resources and devices.

You work from an indigenous world view, you recognise mana atua, mana tangata and mana whenua in your practice. You are innovative, confident and willing to learn and ‘give it a go’. You are fluent in a Pasifika language and have an interest in designing new programmes to connect with our Pasifika community.

As a collaborative team member, you’re willing to advocate internally for the needs and expectations of Pasifika as customers. Excellent digital skills and strong attention to detail, with proven customer service experience, are all key skills and attributes that will set you up for success.

You can expect variety in your work, and a supportive work environment for you to thrive. In this role you will be able to make a significant contribution to the Pasifika and wider communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.
