Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the Role
As a Modeller, you’ll be responsible for the development and monitoring of core credit risk models, enabled by methodological research and application, ensuring they remain fit-for-purpose and aligned with regulatory expectations. You’ll provide subject matter expertise on a wide range of Quantitative Risk Management activities, including regulatory credit capital, provisioning, stress testing, and credit decisioning.

You’ll play a critical role in ensuring Westpac’s credit risk models across both retail and non-retail portfolios meet high-quality standards and regulatory compliance. By conducting rigorous model monitoring, identifying issues, and recommending tailored responses, you’ll help drive best-in-class analytics and risk management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain credit risk models for both retail and non-retail portfolios.
  • Ensure models meet regulatory compliance and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct regular model performance monitoring and communicate key findings.
  • Provide technical expertise in credit risk modelling across stress testing, pricing, climate change, and decisioning.
  • Challenge existing processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality of outputs.
  • Foster a high-performance culture driven by achievement, teamwork, and integrity.
  • Promote a ‘One Westpac’ team approach to enhance internal collaboration and a strong company culture.
  • Establish best practice procedures in analytics, coding, documentation, and data visualisation.


Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills with expertise in SAS, SQL, R, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Basel Accord, RBNZ Banking Prudential Requirements, APRA Prudential Standards, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Proven ability to influence business practices and ensure adherence to risk policies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to collaborate across business units.
