Position Overview
Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University is seeking a dynamic and student-focused Careers Consultant to join our Wellington-based team on a fixed-term contract to cover parental leave. This six-month opportunity is ideal for someone with a passion for supporting ākonga (students), particularly those studying in the Creative Arts or pursuing entrepreneurial careers, and who brings experience from the tertiary education or recruitment sectors. You’ll be joining a collaborative and supportive team within the Student Development and Partnerships portfolio. We work closely across our campuses and with other student support teams to deliver tailored, future-focused services that help ākonga build career readiness and successfully transition into the workforce. The salary for this role is in the range of $67,184 to $95,514, depending on skills and experience (pro-rated for the fixed term).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide professional career coaching to ākonga through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and online support.
• Design and deliver initiatives that promote career exploration, planning, and confidence.
• Collaborate with academic and professional staff, alumni, and employers to enhance the employability of our graduates.
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of engaging career resources tailored to diverse student needs.
• Work as part of a cross-functional team to support student development and engagement initiatives across the University.

What We’re Looking For

• A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. career development, human resources, creative arts, education, or training).
• A minimum of one year’s experience in careers work, graduate recruitment, or a related field.
• An understanding of, or willingness to grow in, Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A student-centred mindset and a commitment to inclusive, strengths-based approaches.

The employment setting will involve work with people across the lifespan and applicants will be required to comply with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015.
