Join Epsom South Kindergarten part of Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki -The Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA)and lead our dedicated team in a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. We foster aroha (compassion) and manaakitanga (hospitality) for all learners, working together for the well-being of every child (Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa).

Epsom South Kindergarten, a dedicated Enviroschool, is seeking a dynamic Head Kaiako to lead our team of passionate educators. Our beautiful, spacious environment fosters curiosity, creativity, and a deep connection with nature.

  • Lead with Vision: Inspire and empower our team to deliver exceptional early childhood education aligned with Te Whāriki.
  • Nurture Young Minds: Foster a play-based learning environment that encourages exploration, discovery, and imagination.
  • Champion Sustainability: Promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices, leveraging our Enviroschool status.
  • Build Strong Whanaungatanga: Collaborate with whānau and the community to create a supportive and inclusive learning community.
  • Strategic Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring a high-quality learning environment.


Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven Experience: 5+ years' experience in ECE with a current full practicing certificate and first aid.
  • Passionate Educator: Deep commitment to play-based learning and child-centred approaches.
  • Strong Communicator: Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with whānau, staff, and the community.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop and implement effective plans and strategies.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Fosters a positive and supportive team culture.
  • Bicultural Competency: Understanding and appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori culture.
  • Environmental Champion: Passion for sustainability and a commitment to environmental education.
  • Demonstrated Pedagogical Leadership: Experience in leading and mentoring teams, and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Operational Expertise: Understanding of early childhood regulations and compliance requirements, including internal evaluation.
