He angitutanga: The opportunity
Our team is responsible for monitoring resource consents for construction and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance. We cover the entire Auckland region and are passionate about preventing and minimising environmental risks to land, air, and water, whilst promoting sustainable development in a fast-growing city.
This role has a specialist focus on earthworks and streamworks, where you will monitor activities to prevent impacts of soil erosion, sedimentation, and dust from earthworks, that can potentially pollute streams, lakes, and harbours, and pose risks to freshwater and marine vegetation and animals.
Your time will predominantly be spent on-site to determine any potential areas of non-compliance and assess the impacts of these against statutory requirements, with a focus on the effects to the environment and the community. You will be responsible for undertaking enforcement action (where required), providing advice and education to consent holders, industry and helping our customers to understand and comply with their consent requirements.
This role is based at our Central office with an emphasis on South Auckland consents. This full-time permanent role works 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.
He kōrero mōu: About you
Your CV will demonstrate previous experience in planning or environmental compliance, or you may possess a technical qualification in science, environmental or resource management. Sound knowledge of the Resource Management Act and related legislation would be ideal. Earthworks and streamworks is the specialist focus of these roles, as such experience with and knowledge about Guidance Document 05 will be key.
Excellent investigation and problem-solving abilities coupled with sound communication, interpersonal, leadership and relationship building skills will be required. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills will also be important in ensuring quality environmental outcomes are achieved for Auckland.

The salary for this role will be based on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. For an exceptional candidate, a senior position may be available. The goal for Earthworks roles is to develop into a Senior Earthworks and Streamworks Monitoring Officer position.
