Job Description

Downer has many exciting opportunities ahead to help reimagine and transform Aotearoa New Zealand for future generations. We work collaboratively with our customers to support their infrastructure and services needs as they tackle aging assets, regulatory reform, climate change, new technologies, and changing consumer behaviours.

As our Training Compliance Lead NZ, you will manage and lead compliance training across Transport and Infrastructure (T&I) NZ ensuring compliance training obligations are being met.

This is a fixed-term parental leave cover position.


Working with the wider People & Culture team, and operational business, you will develop strong relationships to ensure an in-depth understanding of the workforce training and compliance needs. You will implement this knowledge to lead you team and rive effective coordination of training to meet business requirements.

Other key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide leadership to Learning Coordinators ensuring a culture of delivering timely, high-quality, and consistent training coordination services across the T&I NZ business
  • Coordinate industry training
  • Develop and foster excellent relationships with key stakeholders, providing insightful and trusted advice to business managers
  • Support, inspire, develop, and coach the learning coordination team
  • Provide reporting to managers and support in the execution of training and development initiatives
  • Positively embed application of Downer Standard frameworks, continuous improvement, new technology applications and business processes to drive efficient and consistent outcomes across T&I NZ Capability & Inclusion function


From time to time, you will be required to travel across the country for training or development purposes, and for meeting with your team members.

The role requires an authentic leadership and management style; one that motivates and drives a high performing team and encourages a collaborative and inclusive culture. You will also have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in business, human resources or related discipline preferred
  • People management skills with the ability to coach and mentor team members to enhance their contribution
  • A strong working knowledge of learning/training within an organisation. Knowledge of NZQA framework
  • Well-developed written and oral communication style
  • Proven leadership behaviours that can influence and empower others
  • Ability to develop and foster strong and trusted working relationships at all levels
  • High levels of emotional intelligence and a demonstrated ability to get the best out of a team
  • Previous knowledge of Learning Management Systems desirable
