Ko tō tūranga – your role
As the Software Asset Management (SAM) Lead you are responsible for driving the strategy and processes that govern our software asset management practices. This role ensures the accurate interpretation, tracking, and recording of software license terms, working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain compliance. By identifying and addressing software consumption inefficiencies and duplications, you will play a pivotal role in reducing costs and improving operational efficiency.
Your leadership will be integral to ensuring that software assets are effectively managed, fostering an environment that supports compliance and optimizes software usage. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to the creation of a streamlined, compliant, and well-managed software environment that supports the broader goals of the organization.
Ko tō mahi – what you’ll do
- Establish and lead cross-functional teams / governance forums at mid, senior and executive levels of the organisation
- Understand stakeholder challenges and provide support to optimise use and compliance to contract terms
- Manage risks and issues incl. compliance positions and software support status
- Reduce consumption and duplication of software
- Support procurement strategies (optimise license types, quantities & cost reduction)
- Lead self-auditing to ensure formal license compliance reporting processes are favourable to One NZ.
- Ensure software license terms are correctly interpreted, recorded in Flexera and fully understood by contract owners / technical teams post contracting.
- Coordinate with operational teams to ensure license compliance is managed for software that cannot be discovered using Flexera.
- Lead our SAM strategy and processes.

- Strong influencing and communication skills with demonstrable experience influencing at all levels of the organisation (including SLG and Exec) to own remediation of difficult and complex issues.
- Significant experience negotiating or managing software license contracts.
- Proven experience working in technology related roles with strong technical proficiency
- Ability to synthesise complex licensing terms and technical nomenclature into clear problem statements and actionable recommendations
- Methodical with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Highly collaborative and confidence engaging at all levels of the organisation.
