Job Description

This vacancy is in an organisation within the public sector, and would provide the successful candidate the opportunity to work across a broad range of commercial law areas on a strong team of in house lawyers.

About the role:

  • This role is based in Auckland, but candidates in Wellington may be considered;
  • The commercial work is broad in nature and includes but is not limited to;
  • ICT contracts;
  • Health Contracts;
  • Procurement contracts;
  • Legal strategy;
  • Advising on internal investment risk analysis.
  • Working as part of a collaborative, inclusive and well supported team who are passionate about their industry and enjoy working within the Public sector;
  • Ability to work from home up to 3 days per week;


About you:

  • Admitted Lawyer in NZ with at least 7 years PQE however all candidates will be considered on merit;
  • Experience from either Private practice or another in house legal role in the commercial, corporate or transactional space;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with stakeholders in all areas of the business;
  • A general understanding/previous experience or a willingness to learn Te Reo Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principals and incorporating this into everyday work;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Public Sector generally in NZ and how it operates;
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior lawyers and other team members;
  • Strong focus on customer needs, consistently showing initiative and self-drive to achieve results;
