Job Description

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

This position is part of our Biosecurity Import & Export Standards Directorate and plant health system. As an Adviser, you are responsible for the development, maintenance and review of technical requirements and export assurance programmes for New Zealand's forestry, seed, horticultural, and plant products, and contributing to the negotiation of market access requirements.

This role provides an opportunity to apply your technical expertise in plant protection and risk management alongside your knowledge of stakeholder engagement and project management. We are specifically looking for someone keen to support our forestry, seed and plant exporters and contribute to the growth of these export industries.

About You - Mōu

You will bring your plant, forestry or biological sciences degree (or related discipline) or work experience operating in a regulatory environment. You will also be able to demonstrate the practical application of:

  • Managing competing priorities in the work plan
  • Providing technical information for bilateral discussions
  • Knowing/understanding biological and crop production systems
  • Problem solving and a ‘can do' attitude
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and relationship skills.

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

Biosecurity Import & Export Standards covers all the activities that contribute to reducing the likelihood that harmful pests and diseases will arrive at our border, as well as supporting the assurances for our plant produce exported overseas.

The work we do facilitates the export of New Zealand's primary plant products to ensure products comply with overseas country's requirements reduces the risk before produce leaves New Zealand. Producers and exporters all take action to comply with the requirements specified by our trading partners.

Our role includes seizing export opportunities for our food and fibre sector, improving sector productivity, ensuring the food we produce is safe, increasing sustainable resource use, and protecting New Zealand from biological risk.
