About Metlink

Under the Metlink brand, Greater Wellington Regional Council supports the delivery of an interconnected public transport network via Transport Operators carrying over 140,000 Wellingtonians on bus, train, ferry and Total Mobility services every day. Given the pivotal commercial aspects of Metlink’s work, a new Commercial Partnerships team has been stood up.

With many of Greater Wellington’s public transport service contracts coming up for renewal, a new team within Commercial Partnerships has been established to lead the review, redesign, development, and tendering of these contracts. A major rolling multi-year programme is being established across all modes and encompassing many high-value contracts.

Above and beyond traditional procurement, the priority for this team is securing cost-effective outcomes that will best serve the needs of the region in the years to come.

About the Procurement Advisor – Kaitohutohu

We are seeking an up-and-coming procurement professional who is eager to take the next step in their career and to help drive Wellington’s public transport landscape forward. This will be a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and the perfect opportunity for you to prove that you can thrive on a challenge!
Working within the broader Transport Services Procurement (TSP) Team, you will be capable of both collaboratively approaching broad strategic goals and supporting the programme forward. As the ideal candidate, you will bring a can-do attitude and be able to confidently juggle competing priorities amidst ambiguity. Joining the team at an intermediate level, you will bring previous procurement experience and a knowledge of public sector procurement processes, as you seek to grow this knowledge by leaning on the wealth of knowledge within the team and the broader organisation.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Support the approaches to market based on agreed procurement strategies and plans.
  • Participate in the drafting of various procurement and tender documentation ready for endorsement and approval in a clear and succinct way.
  • Identify procurement risks and support the effective mitigation of these in collaboration with the Greater Wellington Legal and Procurement teams.
  • Develop and maintain effective long-term, collaborative relationships with key partners and stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood.
  • Proactively assist the TSP Team to improve outcomes within the programme.


Skills and Experience Required

  • Knowledge and experience with local/ central government procurement requirements.
  • Experience in analysing procurement issues, evaluating options and reporting on them at programme and project level.
  • Ability to produce quality documents, with care for accurate detail, within timeframes.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills and an ability to communicate with a wide variety of groups and individuals and simplify the complex
  • Capability in Te ao Māori in line with Greater Wellington’s Māori Capability Framework.

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $75,410 to $113,115, with a midpoint of $94,263. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
