Position: Shift Manager

Location: Lyttelton Port

Status: This is a full-time salaried position based at our Lyttelton port operations

About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager to join our Lyttelton Port team. This role is ideal for an experienced stevedoring professional seeking new challenges and growth in our expanding operation. Handling a variety of cargo types, including logs, bulk products, palletized goods, and containers, you’ll play a key role in maintaining safety standards and ensuring efficient cargo operations.

We’re looking for candidates with experience supervising teams within the port industry. However, applicants with strong operational management experience outside of stevedoring will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict adherence to our health and safety protocols
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox meetings
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness
  • Utilize specialized cargo management systems
  • Coordinate with ship captains, port authorities, and logistics partners
  • Optimize loading and unloading operations


Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in operations management, ideally in a fast-paced, industrial or logistics environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising with internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Ability to handle reporting and administrative duties accurately and efficiently.
