Job Description

At Whānau Āwhina Plunket, people are at the heart of what we do, our teams of nurses & health workers care for pēpi and whānau across Aotearoa on a day to day basis, providing reassurance and clinical advice in homes, clinics and in community settings.

We are seeking a proactive and insightful Risk and Assurance Advisor to join our team in Wellington or Auckland in a full time permanent position.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
In this key role, you’ll help strengthen our Risk and Assurance Framework, with a focus on operational risk management, control effectiveness, and assurance activities across the organisation.

Working closely with the Head of Safety, Risk and Assurance, you'll play a pivotal part in identifying key risks and developing strategies to manage them effectively. Your work will support Plunket’s mission by improving internal controls and providing a centralised view of our assurance activities. You’ll take the lead on training related to risk management and compliance, deliver comprehensive reporting to the Board and other stakeholders, and facilitate the development of operational risk profiles with different teams.

  • Help design and implement risk and assurance frameworks, processes, and tools in line with ISO 31000 principles.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of risks, ensuring there are strong mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct control assessments and assurance activities to evaluate risk controls, compliance, and governance effectiveness.
  • Identify emerging risks and vulnerabilities through horizon scanning, ensuring the organisation is prepared.


He kōrero mōu | About you
Your understanding of risk management methodologies, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to facilitate workshops will support you to deliver key initiatives. You will have exceptional relationship management and communication skills, be able to engage and influence kaimahi at all levels while bringing them along on the journey with you, and enjoy using your critical analysis skills to make well informed decisions.

You will also be/have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or experience in risk management or a related field
  • Skilled at critically analysing complex information, assessing controls, and providing practical recommendations.
  • Experience in risk reporting, control evaluations, and compliance monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and a commitment to equity, diversity, and cultural competence.
