About the role
Are you an experienced finance professional looking for the next step in your career? An innovative fintech company based in Wellington is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join their team.

Reporting to the CFO, this role is pivotal in ensuring the financial health of the business. The Financial Controller will oversee financial reporting, budgeting and compliance while supporting strategic decision making in a fast-paced and growing industry.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the preparation of accurate financial statements and management reports.
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management to support business objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, tax obligations, and accounting standards.
  • Managing internal controls and optimising financial processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives.
  • Supporting the CFO and executive team with financial planning and analysis.
  • Managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and other stakeholders.


About you
You’re a highly motivated and proactive leader with a strong technical accounting background. You have a proven track record of managing financial operations in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to drive improvements and innovation. You will be based in Wellington and thrive on in-person collaboration. You have a keen eye for detail while maintaining a strategic outlook.

Key skills and experience

  • CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years in commercial or chartered accounting roles - ideally within fintech, financial services, or a technology-driven industry.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and inspire teams.
  • Exposure to multi-national group structures, including transfer pricing experience is preferable.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g. NZ IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and data analytics tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
