He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Libraries) have a strong community focus, and we are an extraordinary destination for the people of Auckland. Our Senior Library & Council Service Assistants play a vital part within our library team ensuring that our libraries within the Whau Local Board, provide a world-class customer experience that is second to none.
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Whau Local Board cluster as a Senior Libraries & Council Services Assistant, supporting and delivering library services including adult and digital literacy and outreach. This is a permanent part-time position, working 20 hours across three days, including one weekend day.
To succeed in this role, you'll need to be flexible, proactive, and passionate about serving the community. While the role is primarily based at Blockhouse Bay Library, you may also be required to work across our other local libraries in Avondale and New Lynn, depending on operational needs.

We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic. Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.
- Has a flexible and collaborative approach to work, excellent communication, and attention to detail.
- Is resilient, adaptable, reliable and able to foster great relationships within the team and across the local board.
- Provide exceptional customer service, including supporting customers to use a wide range of library and non-library resources, navigating literacy and social vulnerability issues.
- Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Keep up to date with current technology and digital tools to support customers with access to resources in all formats.
- Enable and support co-design of programmes and services, driven by community need.
- Knowledge/understanding of Te Ao Māori and a willingness to learn.
- An ability to speak in one of our community languages will be desirable.
- A clean driver licence is desirable.
