About the role
We are looking for two roles within the Reticulation Design and Engineering Team, a Design Engineer and a Senior Design Engineer. Connetics services the electricity network in all phases of asset lifecycle, from design through to maintenance and we encourage our Designers to have hands on interaction at all stages of the project. We have a reputation for developing innovative design solutions and with a pipeline of exciting projects ahead, we are looking for an individual who wants to come along on this exciting journey with us!

This role will see you contributing to the fast-paced and dynamic Overhead and Underground Reticulation Design discipline within the wider Design and Engineering Team, delivering exciting, innovative and highly valued projects. From concept design through to commissioning, you will be responsible for delivering a variety of projects, utilising your ability to design from scratch while also delivering efficiency through adaptive design and building upon proven solutions.

Specifically, you'll be providing Underground and Overhead Line design solutions for our customers, delivering a focus on design quality and inherent safety by:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Reticulation Design Team, team leader, project managers, and stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including network owners, city councils, and clients, to understand project requirements, objectives, and constraints, and develop concept solutions.
  • Communicate progress updates and technical requirements to clients, project managers, network owners, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment of expectations and project outcomes.
  • Support and liaise closely with Reticulation Team Leaders and the Design and Engineering Team.
  • Assist Construction Project Management and construction teams during the installation and construction phases.
  • Develop comprehensive design documentation packages, including construction drawings, calculations, and specifications for major reticulation projects.
  • Utilize software tools such as AutoCAD to create detailed design drawings, schematics, and cable plans, incorporating offset, cable specifications, kiosk details, fuse sizes, etc.
  • Manage small and medium-sized projects with multiple resources, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.


Skills /Experience
Essential:

  • Level 7 engineering qualification or equivalent experience
  • Comprehensive experience in a similar role working with or as a consultant to a New Zealand Electricity Distribution Business (EDB).
  • Comprehensive understanding of standards and New Zealand best practice
  • Evidence of delivering successful projects on time and in budget
  • Experience in using Overhead design software
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A current and valid Driver's Licence
  • Eligible to work in NZ


Desirable:
Skills and/or familiarity in CATAN's COLDNet Pole and COLDNet profile
Skills and/or familiarity in CAD software such as AutoCAD and Inventor
Current professional registration with a widely recognized industry body such as Engineering NZ
