Southern Engineering Solutions is a fabrication and installation business who specialise in making a wide range of products, focusing on bespoke high end custom plant and machinery for the food industry.

We currently have a full time opportunity available for a Workshop Foreman to join our team in Islington.

You will be responsible for coordinating the workshop staff to ensure smooth running of operations and to meet timelines and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be experienced in the engineering and fabrication industry, and be a team leader. You will be working closely with all members of the workshop and office, as well as clients and suppliers, therefore it is important that you can build strong working relationships.

About the role:

  • Lead and manage the team of tradesmen through day-to-day operations.
  • Motivate the team, provide a positive and encouraging environment.
  • Enforce health and safety in the workshop, lead weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Monitor performance and ensure work is completed to a high standard, provide training and feedback to staff.
  • Delegate tasks, meet deadlines, prioritise work.
  • Solve problems within the workshop and help walk in clients.
  • Ensure tradesmen have the required resources to complete tasks, liaise with the office staff to organise this.


This is a Full Time position working Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. It is preferred that you will be available to work overtime and weekends when required.

About you:

  • Experienced in team management, excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge and experience with engineering, such as welding (MIG & TIG), stainless and mild steel products, reading manufacturing drawings, and the installation of bespoke products.
  • Skilled planning and organisation, ability to keep up with a fast paced environment.
  • Have a valid full NZ drivers license and can drive a manual.
