Te Wero – The Challenge

In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the forefront of enabling best practice asset management. Your expertise will empower our council to make informed, data-driven decisions that enhance our community’s infrastructure and services.

Some of the key accountabilities:

  • Data Management: Collect, process, and maintain accurate infrastructure data.
  • GIS Analysis: Utilise GIS software for spatial analysis, mapping, and visualizations.
  • Data Integration: Combine various data sources for comprehensive insights.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Support planners, engineers, and public works teams.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct data quality checks and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear records of data processes and GIS workflows.
  • Compliance: Ensure activities comply with local regulations and data privacy laws.
  • Project Management: Assist in managing GIS and data-related projects.
  • System Maintenance: Oversee GIS systems and database updates.
  • Data Security: Implement measures to protect sensitive information.
  • Training: Provide training on data and GIS tools.
  • Public Inquiries: Respond to external inquiries about infrastructure data.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements for data management and GIS processes.
  • Grant Support: Assist in preparing grant proposals for GIS projects.
  • Technology Updates: Stay current with GIS technology advancements.
  • Emergency Support: Provide data analysis and GIS support during emergencies.
  • Vendor Liaison: Manage relationships with GIS service providers.
  • Community Engagement: Present data at community meetings and gather feedback.


I ā koe - About You

We are seeking a candidate who possesses:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in GIS analysis, cartography, or a similar role.
  • Experience in the public sector or local government is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in ARCGIS software.
  • Strong understanding of spatial analysis techniques, geoprocessing tools, and map design principles.
  • Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL) and spatial databases.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) for automation and customization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
