Job Description

Nestled in the heart of Waiheke Island, Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant is one of New Zealand's most iconic destinations, renowned for its stunning views, exceptional wines, and world-class cuisine. We pride ourselves on creating unforgettable experiences for both our local guests and international visitors.

We are looking for experienced and passionate Sous Chefs to join our talented kitchen team.

The Role:

As Sous Chef, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, seasonal dishes that reflect the very best of New Zealand’s local produce. You’ll be a key support to the Executive Chef, helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring a smooth and efficient service, and maintaining the high culinary standards for which Mudbrick is known.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in menu planning, preparation, and execution, ensuring a consistently high standard of food.
  • Leading and motivating a team of chefs and kitchen staff, maintaining a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Overseeing food safety and hygiene practices in line with company policies and regulations.
  • Managing stock levels, ordering supplies, and controlling kitchen waste.
  • Maintaining and improving kitchen workflows to ensure efficient service during busy periods.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef, with a strong background in fine dining or high-end casual restaurants.
  • A passion for using fresh, local ingredients and a solid understanding of contemporary New Zealand cuisine.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a dynamic kitchen team.
  • A commitment to maintaining exceptional food standards, cleanliness, and health & safety practices.
  • Flexibility to work during peak seasons, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Must have open work rights for NZ
  • Must live on or be willing to relocate to Waiheke Island

If you’re a passionate chef with the skills to thrive in a fast-paced, high-end kitchen, we’d love to hear from you!
