Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

The Downer South division is highly respected and has a great track record for delivering a high standard of work across the country. We are looking for a General Hand to provide support within the Rangitīkei District out of our Marton and Taihape depots.

As a General Hand undertaking aspects of Bridge Maintenance and general civil duties, you will be involved in varied projects assisting with network maintenance tasks, operating of machinery, and preparing worksites. This role will present an opportunity for experienced people interested in continuing their civil infrastructure and roading journey.

You will be involved in the undertaking of day-to-day routine duties involving some manual handling tasks along with some general operation of light machinery as well. This could include:

Helping with safe site setup for your crew and the general public (traffic management)
Water blasting, cleaning, painting, signs installation/maint and minor timber work repairs to hand rails
Civil repairs that may involve concrete (footpaths / kerb) signs maint/installs, site rails cleaning and painting
Ensuring efficient use of materials, supplies and equipment while working as part of a cohesive team to deliver to client requirements
Please note that this role will not start until July 2025.

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills

You will be a physically fit and motivated person and will bring with you:

Class 2 Full New Zealand Drivers License (essential) WTR endorsements would be advantageous
Basic carpentry and engineering skills would be ideal
Ability to work within a team and alone when required
Flexibility to work away from home and work night shift work / call outs as required
Occasionally assist with call-out work.
Have a positive 'can do' attitude
